Horner Gets Waterpark Ready for Summer

A recreational park in Indiana called Horner to make sure their motors were up and run- ning and the pool could open up Memorial Day weekend. The pumps and motors at the park circulate water up the waterslides, down the lazy river. They also direct the water towards the water processing system for filtration, heating, and chlorination. Indy Field service removed the motors and brought them back to the shop to test them, install new bearings, and recondition them. They replaced 1/3 of their motors with new motors from our Product Sales Department and are keeping the old recon- ditioned motors [...]

3000 HP Cement Motor

After having successfully cutting coils from a stator on site four times previously, the 3,000 HP stator finally died and had to be scheduled to be rewound at a cement plant in KY. The removal of the motor is not the conventional way you think of a motor being removed, you start by removing the outside wall of the building it is in, and then sticking the boom of the crane inside the building to be able to lift the motor. standing at a safe distance from the equipment, the motor does not look all that large, but as if gets [...]

Power Generation Plant Water Pump Motors

A coal fired power generation plant had a planned outage to maintain equipment and Horner was onsite to remove 2 1250HP vertical pump motors. These motors pull water from the reservoir for cooling purposes and heat exchangers. These motors were taken out for routine maintenance, basic reconditioning and to replace bearings. Onsite to help with the removal was Indianapolis Field Service Don Pence, Louisville Field Service Joe Dupont and Terre Haute’s Eddie Piper and Jeremy Brown. Crane service had to be scheduled and coordinated to pull the motors out. The bearings for these motors are specialized thrust bearings and were replaced [...]

Compressor Room Electric Motor

A call came in late Friday from a customer planning to have their maintenance team do an onsite bearing change on a production compressor motor. We had the bearings in stock and set aside for them, however, Monday morning I received a call letting me know that they weren’t able to complete the work in house and requested Horner Field Service to come assist as soon as possible. We sent a team that morning to pull the motor and get it in to the shop for evaluation. Once onsite, they found that the compressor room is not accessible with a forklift. [...]

Hydro Generating Station: Oregon

In January 2018, the Springfield Division was contacted by a large electrical contractor to quote a hydro generator collector ring assembly repair and replacement. The contractor received a RFQ to replace the Hydro Generating Station, in Ashland, OR, excitation system. Included in the work scope is the removal, refurbishment, and installation of the generator collector ring assembly. By the end of February, we received a PO to perform the work. A trip in May was scheduled for Jim Delawder & I to job walk thru at the hydro generating station. The job walk confirmed the generator collector ring assembly location on [...]
