Paper Plant Urgent Hydraulic Cylinder Repair

When Mark Rosebrock (Indy Field Service) received an urgent call before even arriving at the shop, he knew it was going to be a challenging day. A major paper plant in Ohio had been down for nearly a week, with Friday marking their last chance to get back online before the weekend. The situation was dire: their critical paper slitting machine, responsible for cutting 12 to 14-foot rolls of paper with a 7-foot diameter, had been out of operation for six days due to a persistent hydraulic issue. Despite replacing the leaking piston seal in the drive-side hydraulic cylinder, the problem [...]

Horner Team Effort On Substation

A manufacturer of insulation and commercial roofing, along with glass fibers and nonwovens recently had a project to rebuild their glass melter and scheduled to have the plant completely shut down for 60 days. Mike Croft and I met with the electrical engineering staff on-site and listened to their problems. Mike, another vendor, and I walked the entire plant taking pictures and collecting information on their electrical substations. We ended up getting the bid for right around $300,000.00. For the 3 months leading up to the outage, we met weekly (either in person or conference call/TEAMS meeting) and agreed/planned to have [...]

Automotive Parts Manufacturer Hydraulic Failure

A large automotive parts manufacturer had a failure of a barrel and piston rod assembly on a die cast machine from overuse and lack of maintenance on their part. The Hydraulic division had several conference calls with the customer to talk about different options. Finding materials to complete this job was very challenging and the customer was in a bind due to their expensive contract penalties that were to incur if they fell too far behind. The parts were found in Italy and the Cincinnati Hydraulic Shop team sprang into action and got the customer back to manufacturing. This showcases the [...]

Automotive Plant Hydraulic Issues

An automotive manufacturer was having failures that were caused by heavy gouges and wear in their hydraulic cylinder walls. Another issue was that the rings would break on the piston and cause damage. This is on the application that puts the molten aluminum under pressure and then the rod and piston slam the aluminum into a die to create a transmission case. The customer was buying new sets of barrels/tubes, rods, and pistons at the manufactures price getting very expensive. This is where our Hydraulic Cylinder Repair shop comes into play. They were able to repair the rods and piston assemblies [...]

CNC Machining at Hydraulic Shop in Cincinnati

I would like to introduce a new addition to Cincinnati! It’s our Cool New Cuttin machine. That’s right, we now have a CNC lathe. If you want to get technical it’s a Computer Numerical Control lathe. This is a big step towards our future for the Cincinnati shop. We have several customers that require the same new parts machined on a repetitive basis. We have also had other requests from time to time to quote machining new parts per customer specs. This machine allows us to accomplish all of the above at a very competitive rate compared to manual machining. This [...]
