Horner Helps Biofuel Plant Reopen: An ethanol plant that was recently closed decided to reopen. Their plant equipment sat idle for years since 2018. They are in the process of reconditioning all their equipment and Horner has been tasked with a cooling tower that has a total of six motor/pump combos where they need four of them working at all times. 13200 V 2000 HP Vertical Motor

Can you even imagine how many 60,000,000 gallons a day of water looks like? A good-sized bath would hold 40 gallons and a million gallons would be 25,000 baths. A water utility company recently sent in a 13,200V, 2,000 HP Vertical Motor to be rebuilt. Field Service/Pump Repair Go Diving

We were asked to remove a 600 HP vertical motor and the 13 foot long turbine pump that it couples to, from a cooling tower water basin. The motor was removed without incident, but when we lifted the pump out, instead of the expected 13 feet, we only got 5 feet of pump! The pump had actually broken in two! 60 HP Integral Vertical Pump Motor (Water Cooled) Assembly

A Louisville customer recently brought in a 60 hp integral vertical motor pump assembly where the motor was water-cooled. The circulation tubes running through the stator had clogged with lime buildup causing the motor to overheat which resulted in the motor windings being burned to a crisp. The customer came in to witness the teardown and to discuss options to prevent future unplanned downtime, as this had happened numerous times before.
