One of Horner’s customers is a major supplier of automotive grade aluminum for major manufacturers of car and truck bodies. After the aluminum passes through a set of rolling mills to reduce the material thickness, the sheet passes through an annealing furnace to reduce material stresses from the rolling process. The annealing furnaces have fans circulating the furnace hot air to evenly distribute the heat to prevent hot spots. DC Steel Mill Motors

The Horner Springfield division received a call from a steel mill customer, located in Columbus OH. They had a failure on a tandem pair of 850 HP DC motors on their rolling mill operation. Horner Industrial Springfield division had previously rebuilt their spare DC tandem mill motor set, including rewinding one of the armatures. Springfield field service techs removed the failed motors and installed the stored rebuilt motors, at the customer’s site.
