Ski Lift Motors and Controls

In September of last year, John Baumann (Sales) and Jim Delawder (Field Service Coordinator) inspected a ski lift at a ski resort located north of our Springfield OH shop. The resort had recently been purchased by a large conglomeration of ski resorts, located in Vail Colorado, and the new owners realized the need to update their ski lift motors and controls at this particular resort. After a complete inspection and some discussion, we quoted an upgrade package for one of their ski lifts, consisting of a new Toshiba motor, ABB drive, and other control components. John and Jim did a great sales job as we won this order, without any competitive bids.
Dave Whited and Lori Beam sourced the motor, drive and control components that were
required for this project. Dave Howard and our mechanics upgraded the new motor to a
roller bearing for a side belt load and our drivers delivered all components to the
jobsite. Springfield Field Service removed the obsolete equipment and installed
the new motor, drive and controls. Dan Sneary, from Springfield Field Service, worked with
Rick Collins, from Indianapolis Field Service, to perform startup and program the controls.
They then needed to put the ski lift under a loaded condition, so the customer loaded
55-gallon drums full of water on the ski lift, to simulate a full load on the ski lift.
The customer is very pleased with how the installation turned out and has said they hope
to upgrade another ski lift this year. The Horner Industrial team came through again with a successful upgrade job.
