    Description

    Job Summary:

    As a Manual Machinist you will identify and solve problems as they relate to industrial AC and DC electric motors.

    Primary duties include, repairing or fabricating parts for mechanical assemblies.

    Safely and effectively operate various machining tools such as engine lathes, vertical mills, presses, grinders, saws, drills, boring tools, welders, broaches and related equipment.

    Accurately record mechanical measurements using devices such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and bearing bore gauges along with proper techniques to determine correct sizing and produce expected results.

    Common activities include boring and sleeving end bell housings, repair machining rotor journals and dynamically balancing rotating assemblies.

    Safely use overhead cranes, fork trucks, and associated rigging equipment.

     

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    Accurately operates various machining equipment including but not be limited to the following:

    Vertical and horizontal lathes

    Milling machines

    Drill presses

    Surface grinders / sanders

    Hydraulic presses

    Electro Plating systems

    Metal spray torches

    Broaching machines

    MIG, TIG, ARC/Stick, Oxy Acetylene Welders

    Chop Saws

    Band saws

    Dynamic Balancing Equipm

    Reads blueprints and/or draft drawings & specifications

    Accurately use measuring devices such as outside micrometers, calipers, inside micrometers, bore gauges, feeler gauges, etc. to read and record sizes of equipment and component parts.

    Calibrates devices per approved standards, if self calibration is required.

    Accurately calculate tolerances and fits based upon measurements made.

    Document all calculations & measurements on applicable forms.

     

     

     

     

    Job Requirements:

     

    Education:

    High School Diploma or the Equivalent.

     

    Work Experience:

    3 or more years of experience as a machinist for electric motor repair preferred. A minimum of 1 to 3 years work experience in a related machine shop environment or having successfully completed an accredited EASA, military or trade school machine shop program.

     

    Skills & Abilities:

    Ability to work independently or as part of a team as applicable.

    Requires blueprint & specification reading, machining, measurement, data collection, and safety abilities at a career skilled tradesman level.

    Requires oral and written skills to effectively communicate with co-workers, shop staff, supervisors and managers.

    Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

    Ability to lift, push, pull or carry items up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
