7000 HP ID Fan Motors

In the dynamic landscape of energy production, Horner has been a steadfast partner in ensuring the operational excellence of a prominent coal-fired generating plant. This success story revolves around the maintenance and reconditioning of two critical 7000 HP induced draft fan motors, integral components of the plant’s power generation process. A real life example: (Not our customer) Kingston Fossil Plant near Knoxville, TN rely on the combustion of coal in a boiler to produce high-pressure steam. This steam, at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, propels turbines connected to genera- tors, generating electricity at an impressive 20,000 volts. The Kingston plant, with its colossal output of 10 billion kilowatt- hours annually, plays a vital role in powering approximately 700,000 homes, underscoring the immense scale and significance of such operations.
Within this complex system, the electric motors come into play, specifically driving induced draft fans positioned downstream of the boilers. These fans play a crucial role in evacuating spaces and creating negative air pressure, facilitating the removal of gases and fly ash from the boilers through a dust collection system, ultimately channeling them towards the plant’s towering smoke stack. Indianapolis Field Service was summoned to the plant during a scheduled outage to under- take reconditioning and removal of the Unit 1 fan motors. The Horner Indianapolis shop will do basic reconditioning, potential rebabbiting of bearings, thorough cleaning, varnishing of windings, and rigorous electrical and mechanical testing. The complexity of this operation is further highlighted by the strategic scheduling required to seamlessly remove and reinstall these motors, ensuring their readiness for the plant’s re-firing schedule. The expertise derived from years of successful collaboration has positioned Horner as the trusted repeat partner for this critical undertaking.
